David Beckham Challenges Victoria's Claim of a Working-Class Upbringing: "Let's Be Truthful"

In the new Netflix docuseries "Beckham," which chronicles the life and career of the renowned footballer David Beckham, an interesting exchange occurred between David and his wife Victoria Beckham, also known as Posh Spice. In the first episode of the series, Victoria discusses what initially attracted her to David, stating, "I think also we both come from families that work really hard. Both of our parents work very hard, we're very working class."

However, David interjects from another room, challenging her statement, saying, "Be honest!"

Victoria insists, "I am being honest," but David presses further, asking, "What car did your dad drive you to school in?"

While Victoria initially responds with a nuanced explanation, stating, "it's not a simple answer" and "it depends," David persists, leading her to eventually concede, "OK, in the '80s, my dad had a Rolls Royce."

David and Victoria's love story began when they met at a football match in 1997, and they quickly became a prominent topic in the U.K. media, earning the nickname "Posh and Becks." The couple tied the knot in 1999 and have four children together: Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper.

In an interview with Variety, director Fisher Stevens, who worked on "Beckham," revealed that he spent over 30 hours interviewing David Beckham for the docuseries and 14 hours with Victoria. This extensive time with the couple captured some humorous on-screen banter between them, which was, of course, captured on camera.

Stevens acknowledged that their relationship has faced its share of challenges and controversies over the years. However, he also expressed his admiration for how much David and Victoria love each other and how close they remain despite all they've been through.

"Beckham" is now available for streaming on Netflix.
